The French government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Agence Française de Développement, has been providing institutional support to the African Union - Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR), based in Nairobi, Kenya, since 2006.

This partnership has been renewed and reinforced with the signature of a new partnership agreement, through which the French Development Agency (AFD) will support the institutional capacities of AU-IBAR by providing long term technical assistance, its related operating budget, and complementary short term expertise, for two years. The total amount of the grant is 400,000 Euros.

The objectives of this partnership will be to provide technical and institutional support and build AU-IBAR's capacities in the formulation of new projects and development and implementation of its strategy and activities portfolio, as well as to facilitate partnerships between AU-IBAR and international organizations, particularly in the trade and marketing area. This support contributes to the better utililization of livestock, fisheries and wildlife as resources for human well being and economic growth in Africa.

The signing ceremony took place in the AU-IBAR offices on 12th July 2013. The Grant Agreement was signed by Prof Ahmed El-Sawalhy, Director of AU-IBAR, on behalf of the African Union Commission, Mr Yves Terracol, the Director of the AFD Regional Office in Nairobi and Mr Jeremie Blin, Head of the Cooperation and Cultural Action Office of the Embassy of France in Kenya.
