On 25 May AU-IBAR hosted the celebrations of the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) / African Union (AU). The theme of the commemoration was "Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance".
The event took place in the AU-IBAR premises in Westlands, Nairobi, Kenya, and attracted some 400 distinguished guests and guest of honour the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Hon. William Ruto.
In collaboration with the AU-IBAR, the Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Liberia and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); the National Consultative Multidisciplinary Stakeholders Workshop on the establishment of a Livestock Policy Hub (LPH) took place in Monrovia, Liberia from the 6th – 10th May 2013. The Workshop was attended by 42 participants representing stakeholders, including senior staff of state and non-state actors (government, civil society organizations, community based organizations, private sector organizations, academia, the National Livestock Policy Focal Point and the AU-IBAR VET-GOV Program team.
The overall objective of the Workshop was to provide a better understanding of the VET-GOV Programme, paving the way to the improvement of the livestock sector through related policies, animal health strategies and veterinary legislations in Liberia.
The Ninth Conference of Ministers responsible for Animal Resources in Africa will be held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, from 18th to 19th April 2013. The conference is organised by the African Union - Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) under the auspices of the African Union Commission (AUC). The theme of the conference is 'Investing in Livestock to Accelerate Regional integration and Prosperity in Africa'. Its main objectives are to review progress made since the last Conference of Ministers held in Entebbe, Uganda from 10th – 14th May 2010, and to consider other contemporary matters related to the development and utilisation of animal resources in Africa.

At the invitation of the Economic Community Of West African States ECOWAS Commission, in partnership with the African Union - Inter-bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR), a regional meeting of the World Organization for Animal Health OIE delegates to develop common positions on OIE animal health standards was held in Abuja, Nigeria on the 28th - 29th March2013.
The Workshop was officially opened by Dr Ahmed Abu Zachar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Marine. Also attending were Dr Mohammed Abdul Raziq, representative of the Director of African Union -Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) , Dr Abdel Nasser Dehom, Chairman of the Management Committee of the National Center for Animal Health and Chief Veterinary Officer, Engineer Yousef Abu Royce, Director of Animal Production and Dr. Osama Ragab, Regional Coordinator of the VET-GOV Programme for the Union of Maghribian Arab (UMA). In addition 25 participants, representing all stakeholders related to animal resources development in Libya, attended the Workshop.
