IBAR at a glance

AU/IBAR is a specialised technical office of the AU Commission dealing with all aspects of livestock development in Africa

Vision
Animal resources contribute significantly to an Africa free of hunger
and poverty beyond 2015.

Mission
A centre of excellence of the AU with a mandate to enhance Member States and Regional Economic Communities to sustainably improve the contribution of animal resources to the nutrition and incomes of their communities, especially the rural poor.

Mandate  
Along with IBAR’s unique mandate its strategic plan aims at

  1. Control of major transboundary animal disease

  2. Improvement of genetic and feed resources

  3. Development of livestock information, communication and technology

  4. Enhancement of trade and marketing of livestock and livestock products

  5. Quality assurance of livestock and animal products

  6. Harmonisation of livestock-related policies and legal frameworks
