African rinderpest conference in Nairobi
1951
The Commission for Technical Cooperation in Africa (CCTA) recommends an institution with a broader approach and establishes the Inter-African Bureau of Epizootic Diseases (IBED)
1956
The mandate is further expanded to cover additional veterinary aspects, IBED becomes the Inter-African Bureau for Animal Health (IBAH)
1964
The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) replaces the CCTA with the Scientific Technical and Research Commission (STRC) with seat in Lagos
1965
The STRC takes over IBAH to become an OAU subregional office operating out of Nairobi
1970
Activities are expanded to include livestock production and marketing, IBAH changes to Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (IBAR)
2003
IBAR reports directly to the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture (DREA) of the African Union Commission
