Somali Livestock Certification Project

Inception workshop

The African Union’s Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU/IBAR) in conjunction with the European Commission and the veterinary authorities represented in the Somali ecosystem, FAO and Terra Nuova conducted an inception workshop on the Somali Livestock Certification Project.

Participants:

Key stakeholders of the process are the livestock producers, traders, consumers and service providers from public and private institutions in the Somali ecosystem

Why:

SOLICEP aims to reduce poverty and consolidate peace by contributing to sustainable equitable economic growth and regional integration. SOLICEP strives in particular to improve the export performance of the Somali livestock sector by

  • Establishing a credible and internationally recognized animal health certification system
  • Building mutual trust between importing and exporting countries

This inception workshop convenes the key stakeholders of the envisaged process to identify the main issues at stake, reach consensus and positively endorse concrete targets.
