Animal Resources Information System 2

Programme overview

One of the mandates of AU-IBAR is collecting and analyzing data and disseminating information on animal resources. In this regard, AU-IBAR has undertaken to revamp the Animal Resources Information System (ARIS) developed earlier and produce the second version of the application, otherwise known as Animal Resources Information System 2 (ARIS 2). In addition to developing the 2nd version of the database, IBAR intends to strengthen the data collection and reporting capacity of AU Member States.

The ARIS 2 database is a web-based application for the collection and analysis of animal resources data and dissemination of information, which is designed to be used by all Member States of the African Union. The first phase of this project run from July to December 2009 and covered four pilot countries. The funding for this phase was provided by USAID through ILRI. AU-IBAR will cover the funding for the 2nd phase of the project.
