Dr. Edward Nengomasha holds a BSc. (Hons.) Animal Husbandry degree, an MSc in Animal Nutrition and a PhD in Draught Animal Power. Prior to joining AU-IBAR, he worked in the Department of Research and Specialist Services for 23 years, rising from Research Officer to Deputy Director in the Division of Animal and Pastures Research. During his early years of service, he conducted research primarily in intensive and rangeland nutrition of beef cattle. He then joined the draught animal power programme and conducted some pioneering research in donkeys. His research raised awareness and increased the knowledge and information available on this neglected species. From 2005, Edward has been involved in the management and coordination of research programmes in the Division. Through his years of service, he has acquired expertise in Animal Research and Development, Programme/Project planning, designing, management and coordination, Information dissemination, training of trainers and farmers. His main functions at AU-IBAR include advising the Chief Animal Production Officer on all aspects of animal production to improve productivity of animal resources in Africa including policy issues; advice on natural resources management with particular attention on the effects of climate change on animal production; the benefits to farming communities from ecotourism and payment for ecological services; the integration of wildlife into farming systems; and editing and producing the Bulletin on Animal Health and Production.
