GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

1.        The Executive Committee of the ISCTRC through its secretariat was commended on the publication of the proceedings of every meeting.  In order to further improve on the progress made so far, it was urged to urgently develop standard formats (in a camera-ready form) for the presentation of:

·   Abstracts and full papers for publication;

·   Country and International Organizations' reports

so that these are published immediately prior to, and made available at, the beginning of each conference.  This has many obvious advantages, for example, of reducing burden on the Secretariat for expensive follow-up actions, reduced cost of publication and easy availability at the beginning of each ISCTRC meeting.

2.     It was recommended that the Secretariat presents at the beginning of each conference, in tabulated form, previous recommendations and the actions taken. This will enable ISCTRC to better assess its performance in the implementation of previous recommendations and be able to propose whatever is/are needed to expedite action on those recommendations that are outstanding.

THE GLOBAL RESEARCH INITIATIVE FOR TRYPANOSOMOSIS - GRIT

The presentation on GRIT was made and discussed at length. The idea of establishing GRIT was extensively opposed and generally regarded as negating the progress and consensus so far achieved in harmonizing international cooperation on Tsetse and Trypanosomosis control in Africa.

GRIT was invited to approach the already established relevant fora for harmonizing its views.
