Dr. Tadesse holds an MSc. in Veterinary Epidemiology from the University of London (LSHTM & RVC) and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Addis Ababa University. Dr. Tadesse has more than 15 years working experience in the field of veterinary epidemiology. Prior to joining AU-IBAR, he worked as a veterinary epidemiologist in Ethiopia and in the Middle East with public and international organizations. He has extensive experience in designing disease surveillance strategies, formulation of disease control programs, management of animal health information system and assessment of animal health risks with good experience in international sanitary standards. He has assisted in the design of surveillance systems in Ethiopia and Kuwait for multiple diseases including Avian Influenza, Rinderpest, CBPP, PPR and RVF. He has developed hands-on experience and skills in undertaking risk assessments to support decision making on import of animals and animal products and has assisted in strengthening epidemio-surveillance and animal health information systems in Ethiopia and Kuwait. He also worked with FAO as Disease Surveillance Consultant and helped in strengthening the Ethiopian national epidemio- surveillance system. His major responsibilities at AU-IBAR include providing technical support on preparedness, prevention and control of trans-boundary animal diseases and zoonoses including other emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases; providing support to RECs and their Member States to implement and comply with international animal health standards as well as to enhance inter-sectoral collaboration between health domains (domestic animals, wildlife and humans) for operationalization of the one health concept at IBAR, REC and member states levels.
