Workshop to Support the Republic of Ghana to review National Policies and Regulatory Frameworks and to Domesticate Relevant Regional and Global Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Management Instruments

AU-IBAR with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), is implementing a 3-year project on "Conserving Aquatic Biodiversity in African Blue Economy" whose overall objective is to enhance the Policy environment, Regulatory frameworks and Institutional capacities of AU-Member States and Regional Economic Communities to sustainably utilize and conserve aquatic biodiversity and ecosystems. 

In line with the provisions of the project, Studies were conducted to assess relevant Continental and Global Instruments related to Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation, Climate Change and environmental sustainability and also to develop priority actions for enhanced ratification and implementation. The report of the studies was finalized, validated by stakeholders and published. 

The next stage, in the process under the Aquatic Biodiversity Project, is to support selected AU­MSs to review National Policies, Regulations and align the National Instruments with relevant Regional and Global biodiversity and environmental Instruments. The Republic of Ghana was selected to be supported in the Western Africa Region due to it's endowment with vast aquatic biodiversity resources, the Oil and Gas deposits and extraction as well as other development activities including developments in agriculture and therefore, the need to Conserve Aquatic biodiversity in Ghana.
