Summary Report on Strengthening the Secretariat to Provide Support to the Conference of African Ministers on Fisheries and Aquaculture (CAMFA) within the framework of the Specialized Technical Committee on Agriculture, Development, Rural, Water and the Environment Fisheries play an important role in eradicating hunger, promoting health and reducing poverty in Africa. In addition, fisheries have provided employment opportunities for coastal populations in Africa and act as a significant social safety net for the poor and vulnerable populations. Fish remains one of the most traded food commodities worldwide.
