On January 26, 2023, the Faculty of Fisheries Resources (FOFR), University of Suez, Ministry of Hiher Education, Egypt was officially nominated as Chair of the African Union Centres of Excellence (COEs) in Fisheries and Aquaculture during a high-profile visit by AU-IBAR. The event celebrated the university’s leadership and advanced capabilities in fisheries and aquaculture research and education. The delegation, led by AU-IBAR Director Dr. Nick Nwankpa toured Suez University’s Faculty of Fish Resources, visiting cutting-edge laboratories, aquaculture ponds, and food industry sections. Presentations highlighted the university’s pivotal role in advancing sustainable aquaculture and fostering collaboration through the COE Network.  

As Chair, Suez University will lead efforts to enhance capacity building, innovation, and regional cooperation in Africa’s fisheries and aquaculture sector. This milestone reflects its vital role in driving the continent’s blue economy and ensuring food security.
