Towards the implementation of the PFRS, AU-IBAR implemented the European Union funded Project 'Strengthening institutional capacity to enhance governance of the fisheries sector in Africa, commonly called Fisheries Governance Project (FishGov 1)' between 2014 to 2018. Fish Gov 1 initiated the development of synergies and coherence in fisheries management and aquaculture practices by aligning national and regional policies with PFRS; enhanced the profile of the sector as well and fostered coordination in the governance of the sector, among other achievements. FishGov 1 supported a few AU MS (Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Tunisia) to align their national policies with the PFRS.
