The Fodder Zone and the Meat Expo

The Kenya Meat Expo 2025 witnessed an expanded scope and impact through the active involvement of the Resilient African Feed and Fodder Systems (RAFFS) Project, which played a key role in highlighting the critical role of feed and fodder within the livestock value chain. A significant milestone was the establishment of the Expo’s first-ever dedicated Fodder Zone, coordinated and facilitated by RAFFS. This groundbreaking addition underscored the vital upstream influence that feed and fodder have on meat quality, cost-efficiency, and availability, reinforcing the importance of resilient feed systems to the sustainability and competitiveness of the meat sector.

The Fodder Zone was carefully designed and branded to create a cohesive and engaging space that draws attention to feed and fodder innovations, products, and solutions. Visual materials, signage, and digital displays throughout the zone reinforce the strategic importance of the feed and fodder sector within the livestock value chain, raising awareness among attendees about the direct link between feed quality and overall meat production outcomes.

The zone brings together a diverse range of stakeholders across the feed and fodder value chain, including entrepreneurs, private sector players, and development partners. These participants engaged in practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, facilitating the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise, and innovative approaches. This multi-stakeholder collaboration is fostering partnerships and business opportunities, enhancing integration and functionality within the feed and fodder ecosystem.

AU IBAR, through the RAFFS Project, is supporting the setting up of the Fodder Zone, media documentation, and assistance for participating entrepreneurs and leadership. Visual content and detailed reports have been produced to capture the activities and engagement within the zone, extending the event’s reach beyond those physically present.

The Kenya Meat Expo’s narrative has also shifted, moving beyond a sole focus on meat to embrace a systems-driven perspective that recognizes feed and fodder as foundational to livestock sector success. This enhanced discourse encourages broader understanding among stakeholders of the interconnections within the value chain, reinforcing investment in feed and fodder as essential to sector transformation and sustainable growth.

The addition of the Fodder Zone marks a significant advancement in how the livestock sector is represented and addressed at the Expo. It brings feed and fodder to the forefront, promoting a more inclusive and strategic approach critical to the future development of the livestock and meat industries in Kenya and beyond
