Collaboration with Regional Economic Communities (RECs)

AU-IBAR values the essential role of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in advancing regional cooperation and integration in animal resources management across Africa. We actively engage with RECs such as the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA); Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA); Community of Sahel–Saharan States (CEN–SAD); East African Community (EAC); Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS); Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD); and Southern African Development Community (SADC) to align our efforts with regional strategies and priorities, aiming for greater impact and sustainability.

Promoting Regional Cooperation

Our work modalities with RECs encourages synergies and cooperation among member states, facilitating the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and resources in animal resources management. By leveraging collective expertise and resources within each REC, we enhance the effectiveness of our interventions and contribute to regional development goals.

Integration of Efforts

We work through  with RECs to integrate our initiatives into broader regional frameworks and policies. By aligning our activities with regional strategies for agriculture, livestock development, and natural resource management, we ensure coherence and complementarity, maximizing our impact on the ground.

Enhancing Impact and Sustainability

Through collaboration with RECs, we strive to achieve greater impact and sustainability in animal resources management across Africa. By pooling resources, coordinating efforts, and harmonizing approaches, we strengthen the resilience of regional livestock sectors, promote food security, and contribute to socio-economic development.

Joint Initiatives and Projects

AU-IBAR and RECs partner on joint initiatives and projects to address common challenges and priorities in animal resources management. Whether it's disease control, market access, or policy harmonization, our collaboration enables us to tackle complex issues more effectively.

Building a Stronger Africa

By working with RECs, AU-IBAR is dedicated to building a stronger, more integrated Africa where animal resources are sustainably managed, contributing to the prosperity and well-being of all citizens continent-wide.
