African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network
Background
The Africa Women’s Fish Processors and Traders Network (AWFISHNET) was constituted in 2017 to empower women in Africa's fisheries sector, supported by AU-IBAR and the European Union. With over 70% of fish processors and traders being women, AWFISHNET addresses gender disparities and fosters economic empowerment.
AWFISHNET provides advocacy, capacity-building, and market access, with 44 National Chapters and two Regional Chapters. AWFISHNET aligns with the African Union’s vision for agricultural growth and Agenda 2063, contributing to food security and economic development through intra-African fish trade and advocacy for inclusive growth.
