Tracking Progress in Africa's Fisheries and Aquaculture: Annual Performance Snapshots
The Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management at the University of Ibadan was commissioned to produce annual snapshots of fisheries and aquaculture performance across the West, Central, and Northern regions of Africa. The aim is to provide a clear, data-driven picture of sector performance, enabling informed decision-making and strategic interventions at national, regional, and continental levels. The consultancy aims to generate annual reports, identify trends and gaps, and guide policymaking and implementation. The approach involves selecting key performance indicators, collecting primary data through field surveys, interviews, and data provided by regional fisheries and aquaculture authorities, analyzing the collected data, and focusing on regional dynamics. The expected outputs include annual performance snapshots, key trends identification, data-driven decision-making, and regional collaboration. The consultancy's work offers a tool for effective monitoring and governance, contributing to a more transparent, accountable, and sustainable fisheries and aquaculture sector in Africa. The final reports will support AU Member States in implementing evidence-based policies and strategies that drive growth and sustainability in line with AU Agenda 2063 and other continental priorities.
