The Africa Platform for Regional Institutions in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Systems (APRIFAAS) serves as a collaborative coordination mechanism bringing together Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Fisheries Bodies (RFBs), Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs), Conventions, Commissions and other specialised regional institutions engaged in fisheries, aquaculture and aquatic governance across the continent.
The Platform provides a structured yet flexible space for dialogue, coordination, experience-sharing and strategic alignment among regional institutions. Through this mechanism, APRIFAAS contributes to strengthening coherence in regional fisheries and aquaculture governance frameworks, enhancing collective advocacy, and articulating a unified African voice in continental and global processes.
In recent years, the Platform has progressively evolved from an informal exchange mechanism into a more structured coordination platform with strategic relevance. The 8th General Assembly marked an important milestone, during during which the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) 2026–2030 and the Resource Mobilisation Strategy (RMS) were formally validated and endorsed by the General Assembly, marking a significant milestone in the institutional consolidation of APRIFAAS. These instruments are intended to guide APRIFAAS toward greater institutional maturity, operational clarity and long-term sustainability.
The forthcoming Board Meeting therefore takes place at a pivotal moment, where emphasis must shift from strategic formulation to structured operationalisation. The Platform now enters a new phase focused on structured implementation, operational alignment and resource mobilisation.
