Despite the significant contribution of pastoral livestock systems across the Horn of Africa and Sahel in livelihoods, food security and regional trade, implementation experiences and investments across Member States, documented evidence, proven models and best practices remain fragmented and insufficiently disseminated at continental level. Trade facilitations, producer-led market innovations, financing instruments, SPS compliance mechanisms and digital market intelligence systems are often implemented in isolation thus limiting peer learning and coordinated policy uptake.

In response, therefore, APMD seeks to institutionalize a structured continental forum through quarterly thematic webinars that will formally position the project as a continental voice and knowledge platform. These webinars will directly operationalize the project's strategic objective 1 that is aimed at enhancing continental visibility, share evidence and knowledge on pastoral market systems.

Objectives
The overall objective of the webinar will be to convene an evidence-driven continental dialogue that strengthens visibility and learning on pastoral livestock marketing systems while generation practical policy and investment recommendations.
Specifically, it seeks to:
i. Amplify AU-IBAR thought leadership and continental voice on livestock and livestock commodity trade.
ii. Disseminate synthesized evidence on pastoral livestock market performance
iii. Facilitate cross-regional peer-learning between African Member States.
iv. Highlight scalable proven models that enhance livestock trade facilitation and market integration.
v. Strengthen harmonization of standards, SPS compliance and market transparency to enhance competitiveness of African livestock products.
vi. Catalyse investment and financing solutions that de-risk livestock value chains and improve access to formal regional and international markets
vii. Support continental integration process, including alignment with the AfCFTA objectives and regional livestock mobility frameworks.

The 2026 webinar series will move beyond dialogues to focus on evidence-driven learning, policy uptake and investment-oriented solutions thus positioning APMD as the continent’s premier knowledge and coordination platform on pastoral livestock trade and market systems.

Expected outcomes
o Increased visibility of APMD as a continental thought leader and coordination platform.
o Strengthened public-private dialogue and partnership momentum.
o Enhanced effective global south-south cooperation in pastoral livestock marketing.
