Tanzania to Host Africa’s 7th World AMR Awareness Week - Driving Action for a Safer Future

AU-IBAR and Africa CDC, under the auspices of the African Union, will join other stakeholders (Africa Quadripartite - FAO, WHO, UNEP, WOAH) in commemorating the 7th World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) Campaign, which runs from November 16 to 24, 2025. The United Republic of Tanzania will hold this year's commemorations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This year's theme is "Act Now: Protect Our Planet, Secure Our Future"
The event will be held in a hybrid format, with an expected 500 participants (250 in person and 250 virtually), including scientists, policymakers, youth innovators, and representatives from the Africa Quadripartite (FAO, WHO, UNEP, WOAH), capacity-building projects, civil society, and the private sector, among others.

The event will serve as a specialised forum for scientific interchange, including high-level openings (Day 3), project showcases (Day 5), and field visits (Day 6). The two-day approach ensures targeted, high-impact workshops that do not conflict with the main WAAW activities. The program will expand on youth involvement (Day 2) and policy roundtables (Day 3) by adding young researchers and evidence to help accelerate NAPs.

Keynotes will be included on the agenda to deliver high-level insights from top experts, setting the tone for each day and reaffirming the conference's focus on actionable science.
The event's intended objectives include policy proposals and strengthened networks to accelerate the implementation of AMR National Action Plans (NAPs).
