Q2 2025 Achievements & Q3 2025 Outlook from Planning to Results: PPR Already in Retreat

The second quarter of 2025 marked a decisive turning point in the fight against PPR. Indeed, the Pan-African PPR Secretariat (PAPS) is now fully operational, with all strategic positions filled and regional coordinators actively deployed across every Regional Economic Community (REC). As a result, this governance milestone ensures that decision-making, planning, and oversight are effectively coordinated at both regional and continental levels.
Moreover, significant progress has also been made on the technical front. AU-PANVAC has reinforced vaccine certification processes in full alignment with WOAH standards. In addition, the producer network has been strengthened, ensuring vaccine availability across the continent. Consequently, delivery times for diagnostic kits and vaccination equipment have been optimized, thereby accelerating the response capacity of veterinary services in Member States.
At the same time, regional collaboration has reached new heights. Workshops held in Abidjan focused on cross-border cooperation in the Mano River Basin and in Dar es Salaam dedicated to vaccine regulation harmonisation produced actionable recommendations. These achievements clearly demonstrate the importance of a unified continental approach, while still tailoring strategies to diverse local realities.
