Scalable innovations at the heart of the Global Conference on Sustainable Transformation of the Livestock Sector

At the FAO Global Conference, Dr. Laban Mac Opiyo, Animal Production and Natural Resource Management & Resilience Expert at the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR RAFFS project), delivered a two-minute overview on Innovations and Institutional & Social Practices for Sustainable Transformation of the Livestock Sector.
He presented FIBER (Feed Inventory and Balance) an innovation designed to close the critical data gap on livestock feed
availability and requirements across Africa and the Global South.
🔹 The challenge: Most countries lack reliable data on livestock feed, making effective planning for livestock development nearly impossible.
🔹 The solution: FIBER is fast (implemented in 4-12 weeks), cost-effective (90% cheaper than existing systems), and has already shown success in countries like Nigeria, where it reduced costs and connected businesspeople with suppliers.
By providing reliable, affordable, and accessible data, FIBER is unlocking smarter livestock management, strengthening agribusiness linkages, and driving Africa towards food security and economic growth.
