The ARIS2 national training for Gabonese Republic was conducted from 3rd – 6th March 2014 at Libreville. The training is aimed at supporting Animal Resources data management in the country through the use of the Animal Resources Information (ARIS2) application developed by AU-IBAR.
The training session was declared open the national Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) Dr. Daniel OBAME ONDO after brief introduction of the objectives of the training by the ARIS coordinator, Dr Ibrahim Gashash Ahmed and opening remarks by the regional VET-GOV coordinator Dr. Demsa BASHIROU. The ARIS coordinator explained that at the end of this training, the national reporting officers and field staff will be able to use ARIS to submit their reports at national regional, continental and global level.

The opening ceremony was attended by management staff from the Directorate of Veterinary services of the country and enjoyed wide media coverage including the Gabon TV which aired the programme during the day's national News.
A total of 21 staff of the Department of Veterinary services of Gabon and the ICT manager of ECCAS were trained during the 3 day session which covered important parts of system administration and all areas of the system operation. Participants were given ample opportunity to practice and master data entry – both on line and off line - using one module in animal health and another module in animal production. They also practiced and understood the whole process of data transmission including sharing, submission, validation and locking of records. The extensive use of the "AU-IBAR Monthly Disease Report" module and the "Disease outbreak detail" sub-module during the training prepares them to be ready to use these modules/sub-module on the main production server of ARIS to submit their reports immediately.
At the end of the training, an evaluation of the training was conducted through a training evaluation questionnaire completed by all the participants.
