Africa’s dairy sector has strong potential to contribute to food security, nutrition, employment and agro-industrialisation, but its growth is constrained by weak coordination, limited value chain organisation, low affordability of dairy products and underdeveloped linkages with feed, fodder, trade and investment systems. This paper presents guidelines for establishing the Apex Africa Dairy Alliance as a continental multi-stakeholder platform to coordinate dairy value chain actors, strengthen regional and national dairy associations, promote investment, support innovation and improve market linkages. The Alliance is expected to enhance governance, inclusivity, knowledge sharing, resource mobilisation and accountability across the dairy sector, while contributing to improved livelihoods, nutrition outcomes and sustainable dairy industry growth in Africa. This draws from the document’s focus on establishing a coordinated continental dairy platform, strengthening governance and investment, and improving dairy value chain performance.
